Surprising Moment in Ecuadorian Soccer Match

The second tier of the Ecuadorian League doesn’t often grab headlines, but an incident over the weekend certainly caught attention. On Sunday afternoon, El Nacional faced Liga de Portoviejo. The latter, positioned mid-table, took an early 1-0 lead, while El Nacional struggled at the bottom, desperately seeking their first win of the season.

However, things took a turn for the worse for Portoviejo in the 72nd minute.

One of the players suffered an injury, and while another was taken off on a medical cart, things became unexpectedly chaotic. Edison Caicedo, a Porto Viejo player, seemed completely unaware of his surroundings and stepped right in front of that cart.

Although the vehicle was moving slowly, the rear corner of the stretcher made contact with Caicedo’s thigh, sending him tumbling to the ground. It was, well, quite a scene.

Right after the incident, Caicedo immediately grabbed his thigh, clearly in pain as he writhed on the field.

The moment that really added a comic touch was when the cart driver attempted to leave the scene after hitting Caicedo. He only managed to get a few feet before being stopped by the Porto Viejo staff, showing little concern about the accident.

Surprisingly, Caicedo likely woke up the following day with just a bruise, as he finished the game. Portoviejo held on to secure the 1-0 victory against El Nacional, but not without a memorable twist to their day.
