Trump Plans to Abandon DOJ’s Ineffective Anti-Weaponization Fund

Trump’s Plan to Cut Anti-Weaponization Fund

President Donald Trump is looking to eliminate the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) $1.8 billion fund aimed at addressing weaponization issues, according to a report by the Daily Caller.

This move has attracted criticism from both Democrats and some Republicans, who are questioning how tax dollars are being spent. The purpose of the fund was to offer formal apologies and financial aid to those affected by governmental weapon use or legal actions.

“Right now it’s dysfunctional,” a senior government official remarked, as noted by Axios.

The DOJ confirmed it would comply with a recent court ruling that mandates a suspension of the President’s Settlement Fund, although the department disagrees with the decision.

“The DOJ fundamentally opposes the ruling related to the Anti-Weaponization Fund,” a department spokesperson stated. They emphasized that the fund was created to address the significant harm and abuse suffered by many individuals.

This fund was announced shortly after Trump settled a $10 billion lawsuit against the Treasury Department, which arose after the IRS made his tax records public.

“We are going to respect the court,” an official told Axios.

One official pointed out that the fund, while currently seen as problematic, could be revisited in the future. It seems the President remains supportive of the fund’s original purpose.

Notably, Senate Majority Leader John Thune seemed unaware of the developments concerning the fund. When questioned if he had received any notification about its cancellation, he mentioned, “There has been no statement to that effect from the White House yet.”

The Daily Caller has reached out to the White House for further clarification.
