Residents in Washington are still coming to terms with the news about the closing of their beloved Wild Waves Theme Park, despite the announcement being made months ago. It’s hard to believe that something so popular is really coming to an end.

Wild Waves, located in Federal Way, confirmed last year that it will shut down after the 2026 season, with the last day set for November 1st. As that date approaches, the sentiment among locals is one of nostalgia and sadness—it’s as if they’re witnessing the end of an era.

In response to a recent Facebook post from the park, one user expressed a common hope: “I hope they find a new owner who can save the park.” Another added, “I don’t want it to close. In November of last year, the operator of Wild Waves, Premier Parks, announced the park’s permanent closure, citing significant financial losses stemming from the pandemic. Kieran Burke, the president of Premier Parks, reflected on the situation with gratitude for the community and its supporters, but also with a heavy heart, noting the unrelenting rise in operating costs that made continuation impossible. “Unfortunately, we have incurred millions in losses since reopening, forcing us to cease operations after the 2026 season,” he explained.

Wild Waves has been a part of the local landscape since it opened its doors in 1977, welcoming countless visitors who enjoyed its unique combination of theme park excitement and water park re-freshment.
