Tragic Wedding Night Helicopter Crash in Georgia
A bride and a helicopter pilot lost their lives in an accident following a wedding send-off on Friday night in Georgia. The bride, Jesni Fiji, was reportedly left in a devastating situation, trapped for hours alongside her deceased husband.
Reports indicate that Jesni, who suffered only minor injuries and regained consciousness the next morning, woke up to the shocking sight of her husband, Dave Fiji, lying beside her. “She was crying on the phone, asking, ‘What happened?'” said George Fiji, the groom’s father. Jesni is presently recovering in a hospital in the Atlanta area.
The couple had just celebrated their wedding before boarding the Robinson R66 helicopter, which was meant to take them to a hotel after their reception. Tragically, the system did not function as planned. The helicopter crashed in a wooded area after taking off from a venue accommodating around 400 guests in Dawsonville, Georgia.
George explained that Jesni saw the blood and realized her husband was gone, as he was already cold. While she grapples with her grief, she is reportedly making progress in her recovery.
The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the cause of the accident. It’s still unclear why the helicopter went down, especially considering the challenging weather conditions on that evening. George noted that finding the crash site took some time.
The helicopter went down on city-owned land managed as a wildlife area. The pilot had assured them they would fly at a higher altitude, even though the weather was severe.
Dave had been passionate about flying since childhood and had recently joined Endeavor Airlines as a co-pilot. According to his father, Dave had expressed concerns about flying in such low visibility conditions.
In a statement, Endeavor Airlines shared its condolences following the tragedy. The airline conveyed its sadness over the loss of Dave, highlighting the impact it would have on colleagues who worked alongside him.
George reflected on the wedding day, describing how he admired his son, noting that he was handsome. Despite the immense sadness that has followed, George finds solace in his faith, suggesting that without it, there would be more questions to grapple with. “God gave us the perfect wedding, but within hours everything turned into tragedy,” he remarked.
