Brandon Aiyuk Faces Arrest Warrant for Speeding Incident
Brandon Aiyuk, the wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers, may soon learn a hard lesson about consequences after a warrant was issued for his arrest due to a speeding violation where he was clocked at 164 mph.
The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office confirmed that the warrant is linked to Aiyuk’s reckless driving back in December 2025, where he sped past the 49ers’ practice facility during a drive through Northern California.
The alarming speed was made evident when Aiyuk himself shared a video of the incident on social media, showcasing his Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing moving at 164 mph on a road where the speed limit is only 40 mph.
Parts of the video also reveal him exceeding speeds of 110 mph. At the time, Aiyuk, who was 28 years old, was away from team activities and grappling with uncertainties surrounding his future with the 49ers—a situation that perhaps gave him too much time to record and share such a video.
Consequences followed swiftly, as the Santa Clara Police initiated an investigation, which then led to the involvement of the District Attorney’s Office. Although Aiyuk has since admitted his actions were misguided and issued a public apology, the incident has highlighted what has been a turbulent year for him. He earned over $24 million without participating in any games, was kept away from the team, faced voided contract guarantees, and ultimately ended the season on the reserve/left team list.
Looking ahead, Aiyuk’s prospects with the 49ers appear bleak. San Francisco’s general manager, John Lynch, mentioned earlier that it’s likely Aiyuk played his final game with the team, describing the situation as growing increasingly strange.
While attempts were made to trade Aiyuk, they were unsuccessful, compounded by challenges in maintaining consistent communication with him throughout the offseason.
This uncertainty suggests that Aiyuk may soon be released, as the 49ers can cut ties with him now with a lower salary cap penalty. Cut teams would still be on the hook for approximately $7 million in dead money next season, which complicates matters further given his serious knee injury that will keep him from playing in 2025 along with the legal issues surrounding his speeding charges.
Things could potentially get worse. Besides the arrest, Aiyuk could be convicted of a misdemeanor and find himself under investigation by the NFL for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, which allows for suspensions based on actions that could tarnish the league’s image.
In the end, Aiyuk might discover that reckless choices often lead to regrettable outcomes.
