Valtteri Bottas Addresses Speculations About His Future

Following the Canadian Grand Prix, there was quite a bit of chatter in the F1 community regarding Valtteri Bottas’ future in the sport. Many were pondering whether Bottas might be at risk of losing his seat early in his first season with Cadillac, particularly after he struggled against Sergio Perez throughout the weekend in Montreal.

During a media session ahead of this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix, Bottas finally had a chance to respond to these rumors. His feelings were quite clear.

“Totally fabricated,” he remarked when asked about the speculation. “It’s not the first time we’ve dealt with rumors like this. It’s a bit frustrating when people just make things up, but I suppose it’s part of the sport,” he added.

Bottas expressed confidence in his current situation, stating, “I know where I stand, and my team is fully supporting me. So, in the end, it’s okay.” He also clarified that the rumors “haven’t affected” him significantly in his career to this point.

“I was actually enjoying my morning coffee when I first stumbled upon those rumors, and I kind of chuckled,” Bottas continued. “That’s a downside of this sport. Sometimes, it seems like people just want to stir the pot and create stories. I’ve come to terms with that; it doesn’t faze me much anymore.”

This sentiment was echoed by Cadillac team principal Graham Loudon, who recently spoke about both Bottas and Perez’s drive during an interview. “They still have that fire inside them,” Loudon noted, emphasizing their enthusiasm and potential for growth, while also highlighting the need for balance within the relatively new team.

For Bottas and his team, understanding their struggles during the Canadian GP remains crucial. “We’ve got another meeting later today, but I discussed it with the team last week. We recognize issues on both the power unit side and with the car’s manufacturing,” Bottas explained.

He expressed relief in knowing the reasons behind their challenges, stating, “We need to work on improving quality, including how we build the car and install all the parts.”

As he turns his focus to the Monaco Grand Prix, Bottas, who has viewed this race many times, believes Cadillac stands a “chance” this weekend. “Monaco always presents opportunities. I mean, remember when Jules Bianchi scored points here for Marussia a few years back? Something unexpected could always happen,” he added.

“Yes, we need to put in the effort to qualify well, but anything can unfold during the race. We see this as an exciting opportunity.”
