Russell Wilson Announces Retirement
Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson announced his retirement on Wednesday, prompting an emotional response from his wife, Ciara.
Ciara, a singer-songwriter, reflected on their nearly decade-long journey together. After Wilson’s announcement, she shared her pride on social media. “Best in the world! Only one, three!” she wrote.
“Always so proud of you! So happy to be on this journey with you! My biggest inspiration! I love you so much!” she added, accompanied by a goat emoji and two hands forming a heart shape.
Together, the couple has four children, three of whom are with Wilson. Ciara’s eldest child, Future, is from a previous relationship with the rapper Future.
Wilson’s retirement coincided with reports that he secured a position as an analyst with CBS Sports. In a video announcing his retirement, he expressed his excitement about his new role. “As I enter this next chapter with CBS Sports and The NFL Today, I’m thrilled to continue doing what I love most: watching the greatest game in the world,” he stated.
During the video, he expressed gratitude to family and friends, especially Ciara. “Thank you, C. Ciara, thank you for being my greatest blessing, my best friend, and my partner through everything. None of this journey called life would be the same without you,” he said.
Wilson, a 10-time Pro Bowl quarterback, was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft after finishing at North Carolina State University. He played ten seasons with the Seahawks and famously led the team to victory in Super Bowl 48 against the Denver Broncos, with a score of 43-8.
After being traded to the Broncos before the 2022 season, Wilson struggled to replicate his earlier success; he was eventually waived after two seasons and went on to play one season each with the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Giants before making his retirement official.
Throughout his 14-season career, Wilson achieved a record of 121-80-1 over 205 games, completing 64.6 percent of passes for 46,966 yards, along with 353 touchdowns and 114 interceptions.
