Indiana Fires Under Control, Caitlin Clark Shines

Fires in Indiana seem to be under control now. On Thursday night, Caitlin Clark delivered another remarkable performance, propelling the Indiana Fever to an 83-71 win over Angel Reese and the Atlanta Dream, matching her previous WNBA record.

Clark recorded 17 points, seven rebounds, and eight assists, making her the quickest player in league history to reach at least 150 points and 50 assists in a single season. It raises a question: is she creating a new benchmark? It does feel like she’s maintaining that outstanding rhythm from last year.

Caitlin Clark Sets Records, But Brittney Greiner’s Impact Stifles Fever’s Comeback

This achievement comes shortly after a heated exchange between Clark and Fever head coach Stephanie White during Indiana’s recent game against the Portland Fire, which ended in a loss. White’s choice to bench Clark—despite her star status—sparked significant backlash, with many fans even suggesting her resignation seemed plausible.

Before court on Thursday, Clark tried to address the swirling rumors. “I’m personally doing really well. I try not to dive into all that chatter. Sure, people might mention it to me, but I don’t spend time on social media reading it,” she mentioned.

Despite the recent turmoil, as the Fever faced off against the Dream at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, the drama surrounding Portland lingered. Fans became vocal again when White failed to challenge a doubtful foul call on Clark, which only heightened tensions.

Yet in crucial moments, Clark made her presence felt. During a 16-3 run that gave Indiana a 58-46 lead, she ran up to White and punched him in the chest, showing that whatever tension existed might just be fading.

The victory saw contributions from teammates Kelsey Mitchell, who scored 25 points, and Aliyah Boston, who added 19. On the other side, Angel Reese managed a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds but struggled, shooting only 4-of-9 from the field. With this win, Clark’s record against Reese now stands at 5-1.

While Clark’s stellar showing served as a moment for White to soothe critics, the pressure seems to still linger. Even with this win, bringing the Fever’s record to 5-4, questions remain about whether White’s strategy is truly optimizing the potential of such a talented roster.
