Hunter Biden Responds to Jake Tapper’s Criticism
Hunter Biden recently accused CNN’s Jake Tapper of “attacking my mother” after Tapper criticized former First Lady Jill Biden’s new memoir and questioned her portrayal of President Joe Biden’s mental state during the upcoming 2024 campaign.
In response to a post shared on X, Hunter Biden expressed his displeasure after Tapper published an analysis regarding Jill Biden’s memoir, “A View from the East Wing.” In this, he challenged her assertion that her husband did not experience cognitive decline in the last months of his presidency.
“So, let me be clear: Jake Tapper is focused on attacking my mother,” Hunter Biden stated in a post on X.
He went on to discuss the scrutiny faced by President Trump’s adult children and implied that Tapper was applying an unfair standard. “And I know, ‘But Hunter, what about your paintings?’ Please,” he added, referencing the controversy surrounding his father’s art sales while in office.
This exchange extends a longstanding feud between Hunter Biden and Tapper.
In Tapper’s recent analysis of Jill Biden’s memoir, she defends her husband’s capabilities for public service and rejects any claims suggesting his mental faculties were faltering during his re-election campaign. She wrote, “If you know Joe Biden well, you know that if he gets to the point where he can’t actually do his job, he’s going to resign,” according to excerpts highlighted by Tapper.
She further elaborated that if there had been any cognitive impairments, it would have been acknowledged by her and his staff, asserting that her husband was “nowhere near that point in the summer of 2024.”
Tapper responded emphatically, labeling that notion as “highly implausible, if not outright false.” He questioned the credibility of Jill Biden’s assertions, particularly regarding her claims about her husband’s mental competence in both the summer of 2024 and beyond.
“The question was never whether he was good, wise, or shared the same values,” Tapper noted. “It was about his ability to run for president, win a campaign, and serve as president.”
The Biden campaign expressed anger over Tapper’s characterization of Biden’s re-election efforts. Hunter took particular issue, labeling Tapper as an “irrelevant” figure and accused him of exploiting his father’s struggles for personal gain. This criticism intensified after the release of the book “Original Sin,” co-authored by Tapper, which discusses the former president’s decline and the measures taken to keep him from public scrutiny.
Hunter Biden criticized CNN for promoting “Original Sin,” dismissing it as merely an “informational advertisement” for Tapper’s work.
The animosity between Hunter and Tapper appears to have deeper roots. Hunter claimed that during his late brother Beau Biden’s battle with brain cancer in 2015, Tapper reached out multiple times, alleging that he told the anchor to “go fuck yourself” during one call. Tapper vehemently denied these accusations, stating he did not have Hunter’s phone number and had not harassed Beau Biden.
Hunter again targeted Tapper last year, urging Democrats to confront their political opponents and the media more aggressively. He criticized Tapper over a text message exchange with Trump, which he deemed a “complete abdication of his responsibility as a journalist.”
When asked for comment regarding Hunter’s latest remarks, a CNN spokesperson stated that Tapper’s analysis of the memoir stands on its own merit and aligns with his thorough reporting on the Biden administration.
“Jake hosts a two-hour newscast every day, along with an additional hour on Sundays, where he critically examines the Trump administration consistently,” the spokesperson added.
