‘Supergirl’ Budget Disclosed at an Impressive $175 Million

Hidden Costs of “Super Girl” Movie

In a surprisingly cheeky note, Deadline revealed that advance tickets for “Super Girl” will be available before its release on June 26. The film reportedly cost a staggering $175 million to make.

Upon adding at least $75 million for marketing—which I think is a reasonable estimate—that brings the total to about $250 million. Simple math, right?

This sets the break-even mark somewhere between $450 million and $550 million. Early indicators suggest that figure might be out of reach.

In a rather amusing take, Deadline noted that the global break-even threshold for “Super Girl” is set at $315 million, with a net figure of $175 million after deductions. Is anyone else confused here? How does a $175 million production budget list a break-even of $315 million without factoring in marketing?

Yeah, that doesn’t add up.

But then again, that’s the odd reality of major studios operating in a media landscape that often seems skewed. The pricier the film, paradoxically, the lower the break-even figure. Interesting dynamics, to say the least.

Early box office projections for “Super Girl” aren’t encouraging. Right now, estimates suggest a domestic opening between $47 million and $65 million. To put that into perspective, that’s less than half of what “Superman” pulled in for its July 2025 debut, which was $125 million, ultimately grossing about $618 million worldwide. Warner Bros. and director James Gunn have claimed that “Superman” was still profitable. Color me skeptical.

Speaking of questionable portrayals, Millie Alcock, the star of “Super Girl,” seems to be channeling a rather unfortunate sense of entitlement. She often likens her experience to that of icons like Rosa Parks, which feels off-base. Women have been breaking barriers in action films for decades, from Pam Grier to Sigourney Weaver, making her claims just a bit disconnecting. She even took a jab at Christian’s father for reasons that seem rather counterproductive.

Honestly, it’s disheartening to watch some of the most privileged individuals in the world play the victim.

Regardless of the outcome, Alcock insists that “Super Girl” has the best fans globally and that she’s thrilled about landing the role. It’s nice to hear, but it’s also a reminder of how different the industry has become. Once upon a time, stars expressed genuine gratitude and recognized how fortunate they were to be in the spotlight. Nowadays, that seems less common.

In any case, “Super Girl” is poised for a rough ride. It seems that a little humility might not be such a bad idea for Alcock after all. Just a thought.
