Victor Wembanyama Stays True to Health Values, Rejects Soda Endorsement
Victor Wembanyama isn’t interested in promoting soda products. Before making his mark in the NBA and earning around $150,000 while playing in France, the Spurs star turned down a multi-million dollar offer for a soda endorsement.
His agent, Jeremy Medjana, explained that Wembanyama prefers not to associate his image with beverages like Coca-Cola, stating, “Everyone wants him, but Victor never sells soda because he doesn’t want to kill kids.” This sentiment reflects his commitment to positive health.
The 22-year-old has even gone as far as saying he won’t conduct press conferences until certain beverage brands, like Gatorade, are removed from sight. Instead, he chooses to promote Barcode, a plant-based performance drink without added sugar.
Currently, Wembanyama is associated with brands such as Nike, Louis Vuitton, and 2K Sports, among others. He recognizes that further deals may come his way, especially if he continues to perform well, yet he emphasizes that endorsements aren’t his primary concern at this moment.
As NBA Commissioner Adam Silver mentioned, Wembanyama understands the importance of focusing on his career achievements rather than getting sidetracked by commercial opportunities. Silver pointed out that Wembanyama’s legacy will be defined by his championships rather than his platform.
Since being drafted first overall by the Spurs in 2023, Wembanyama has been making headlines for his impressive gameplay. In his rookie season, he averaged 21.4 points per game, which rose to 24.3 the following season and reached 25 points in the current year. He’s also received recognition, finishing third in MVP voting this season.
Wembanyama notably led the Spurs past the Thunder in a seven-game series, earning the title of Western Conference Finals MVP, and helping the team reach the NBA Finals for the first time since 2014.
After a tough Game 1 loss to the Knicks, in which he shot 6-of-21, he’ll have a chance to bounce back in Game 2 scheduled for 8:30 ET.
