Witness Testimony in Austin Metcalf Stabbing Case

New and distressing witness accounts are emerging from the trial surrounding the tragic death of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf, who was fatally stabbed at a crowded track meet in Texas back in April 2025. On Saturday, an 18-year-old former student took the stand. He was visibly emotional as he recounted the panic after the stabbing, stating he heard Metcalf’s “cries for help.”

A second witness, a 16-year-old who attends Memorial High School, recalled that some of the last words Metcalf uttered were, “He stabbed me.” It’s unsettling to think about how moments like these unfold in public spaces.

Security footage is said to show the actual stabbing incident at the track meet. In a previous testimony, another student noted hearing Metcalf exclaim, “Oh my god,” as he realized he had been attacked. This underscores the sheer shock and chaos of those moments.

Currently, 19-year-old Carmelo Anthony faces first-degree murder charges in connection with Metcalf’s death. It’s noteworthy that by the time help arrived, Metcalf was unconscious and could not be revived by on-site staff, who attempted CPR before he was rushed to the hospital.

Anthony has pleaded not guilty, arguing through his defense team that he acted in a state of panic and believed he was defending himself. According to prosecutors, the conflict originated over seating arrangements at the meet. They claim that Anthony, who was not invited, sat down in the Memorial High School team’s area—a move that did not go over well with other students. Witnesses noted that there were multiple requests for him to leave, yet he persisted in staying.

As tensions heightened, witnesses reported Anthony warning Metcalf with phrases like, “touch it and find out.” During the altercation, Anthony was seen sitting with a backpack on his lap and one hand inside, leading some to speculate that he might have been hiding a weapon. In the scuffle, it was suggested that Metcalf pushed Anthony, prompting him to respond by stabbing Metcalf with a folding knife.

Various accounts have labeled Anthony as the aggressor, suggesting that Metcalf had no intention to escalate the situation into violence.

Footage from the scene and police testimony revealed that Anthony was cooperative when apprehended. He reportedly told responding staff, “I’m not hated. I did it.” Afterward, he defended his actions to police, claiming, “He put his hands on me. I told him to stop.”
