Giancarlo Stanton of the Yankees participates in live batting practice once more

Stanton’s Progress at Yankee Stadium

On Saturday afternoon, Giancarlo Stanton was back on the field at Yankee Stadium for the second time in just a few days, facing Angel Chibili in live batting practice.

The Yankees are optimistic that Stanton will be back in action soon, not just for practice but in a game setting. However, he’ll need to be evaluated over the next week or so before that can happen.

After taking four swings against Chibili, who is currently rehabbing, Stanton took off running. He started halfway down the first base line and shifted to the outfield as part of his recovery from a strained right calf.

“We hope it’s sooner rather than later,” said Yankees manager Aaron Boone regarding Stanton’s anticipated return. “He’s just focusing on strengthening his running now.”

Boone has already mentioned that Stanton won’t join the Yankees on their upcoming road trip starting Monday in Cleveland and concluding next Sunday in Toronto. Instead, he’ll continue his running exercises in New York.

Since Stanton hasn’t played in a game yet, there’s a possibility he may not need a rehab assignment before rejoining the team, though it’s too early to confirm that decision.

In another note, Camilo Doval impressed on Friday night, throwing just nine pitches—eight of which were strikes—and striking out two batters in nine innings. This performance has improved his ERA to 5.79 across 27 games, and there’s some optimism that he can elevate his game to become a more reliable part of the bullpen.

Boone shared his thoughts after the game, noting the challenges Doval faced but also highlighting many positive aspects. “It’s about consistency—there’s a lot of good stuff happening with Camilo. How he threw last night was probably the best we’ve seen from him. When he’s on point, he has the potential to be an impactful back-end guy.”

Meanwhile, Dominguez, who didn’t record any hits during his first rehab game as a DH at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, is set to play in the outfield for his second game on Sunday. He’ll need a few more games next week to fully recover from a mild AC joint sprain in his left shoulder.
