Mystics coach taken off the court by police after being ejected for a decision.

Incident at WNBA Game: Coach Ejected

During a recent game against the Atlanta Dream, Washington Mystics head coach Sidney Johnson was escorted from the court by police after he verbally lashed out at the officials. This occurred with just under four minutes left in the third quarter.

The situation escalated when Mystics guard Alicia Flores Getino was called for a foul against Angel Reese of the Dream. Johnson, infuriated by the call, approached the referees at the scorer’s table and expressed his displeasure.

Despite attempts from assistant coaches, including Kiki Iliafen, to calm him down, Johnson’s frustration led to two technical fouls, which resulted in his ejection. A police officer then stepped in and escorted him away.

Post-game, Johnson reflected on the incident, stating, “I lost my cool. There’s nothing more to it than that. That’s all. The authorities did the right thing, that’s all I can say.”

The game concluded with the Atlanta Dream defeating the Mystics 109-77, with Angel Reese contributing 18 points and 17 rebounds. Rhyne Howard also played a key role for the Dream, scoring 19 points along with six steals.

For the Mystics, Iliafen led the team with 24 points, while Sonia Citron added 18; however, they were the only Washington players to hit double figures in scoring.

With this victory, the Dream now stands at 7-3 for the season, whereas the Mystics drop to 4-5.
