Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi shares new information about the attack that resulted in Khamenei's death.

Details Emerge on Iran’s Khamenei Attack

Recent statements from Iran’s foreign minister have shed light on the attack that resulted in the death of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, providing insights into the precision of the U.S.-Israeli operation dubbed “Operation Epic Fury.” Analysts highlight this as a classic example of former President Donald Trump’s national security strategy—conducting targeted attacks against adversarial leaders while creating pathways to de-escalate conflict.

In a televised interview, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi described the aftermath of the attack, stating, “The building we were in was targeted, but our wing remained intact, whereas the other side was destroyed.” This interview aired on June 4 on a Lebanon-based channel, linked to Hezbollah.

Araghchi detailed how he escaped the February 28 attack, noting he was in a different part of Khamenei’s residence at the time. He also mentioned that Khamenei was present in his office, emphasizing that several others survived as well.

“Satellite images provide critical evidence of the destruction inside Iran,” he remarked.

Counterterrorism experts have analyzed Araghchi’s comments, affirming that the operation was focused on specific segments of the structure rather than a complete demolition. Dr. Omar Mohammed, reviewing the situation, noted that Araghchi confirmed his section of the compound survived while Khamenei’s office was destroyed.

He pointed out that on the day of the attack, there were discussions scheduled regarding negotiations in Geneva, which mandated Khamenei’s presence in the office.

If Araghchi’s account holds true, it signifies Iran’s acknowledgment of U.S. military capabilities. Dr. Mohammed added, “They didn’t demolish the entire building; they selectively targeted one wing while leaving another intact. This embodies President Trump’s strategy, showcasing that the U.S. can strike at the core of an adversarial regime without initiating a full-scale occupation.”

The Israeli airstrike, which executed the attack on Khamenei’s compound, involved 30 precision munitions, including Sparrow air-launched ballistic missiles. It resulted in the deaths of Khamenei, defense officials, and other high-ranking military leaders.

President Trump later confirmed U.S. involvement in Khamenei’s assassination through social media, stating that the leader could not escape U.S. intelligence and its partnership with Israel. He reiterated, “Iran received the clearest message possible; we can reach their leadership right at their desk.”

Despite the strategic signal sent by the U.S., Iran chose to retaliate by increasing regional tensions, striking civilian targets, and prompting a global energy crisis. Dr. Mohammed stated, “The surgery was America’s; the prolonged conflict that ensued was Iran’s choice.”

In the aftermath, Mojtaba Khamenei has stepped into the role of Iran’s new supreme leader.

Mojtaba has since engaged in unofficial discussions with U.S. representatives while maintaining a defiant public image. Dr. Mohammed commented on this shift, noting how Araghchi refers to the new leader as “young Khamenei,” indicating a dynastic transition rather than a democratic evolution.

Dr. Mohammed concluded, “The narrative of Iranian strength is misleading. What was demonstrated was the precision of American power, which presented an exit—yet Iran intensified its aggression instead.”
