Stabbing at Pennsylvania Station Injures Six
On Sunday evening, six individuals sustained injuries from a stabbing incident at Pennsylvania Station in New York City. The Associated Press reported that President Donald Trump is set to attend Game 3 of the NBA Finals, featuring the New York Knicks against the San Antonio Spurs, at Madison Square Garden on Monday night, which is just above the station.
The attack took place around 7 p.m., leading to the apprehension of one suspect. Reports indicate that emergency responders discovered one person suffering from serious injuries, two with moderate injuries, and two with minor injuries, as per the city’s fire department.
Victims were transported to Bellevue Hospital, while another individual, whose condition remains uncertain, was taken to a different medical facility.
Signs of the violent event lingered, with medical gloves, discarded bandages, and blood stains still present in a restricted area near Platforms 5 and 6, as noted by the Associated Press.
As anticipation builds for the NBA Finals game—the first held at Madison Square Garden since 1999— Trump mentioned intentions to attend both the match and other games, according to media sources.
In light of the president’s plans, security measures have been enhanced by the Secret Service, NYPD, and other relevant agencies around Madison Square Garden. However, authorities have not confirmed whether the recent stabbing incident will influence security protocols for the event.
Sources revealed to the press that Hector Deleon, 51, is suspected of committing an unprovoked attack within the New Jersey Transit area. Deleon, who is believed to be homeless, faced previous arrests in New Jersey for assault and drug-related offenses; however, details about those incidents weren’t immediately available.
All stabbing victims were reportedly men aged between 30 and 60 years and were thought to be innocent bystanders. One witness, 21-year-old Sanai Rashid, expressed her concerns about safety in the area, stating, “I guess I’m not surprised. Penn Station isn’t known to be the safest spot, especially with the influx of Knicks games lately.” She acknowledged feeling that crime rates have surged and suggested a need for increased security.
Penn Station stands as one of the busiest transit hubs in the United States, serving numerous commuters and travelers each day through Amtrak, Long Island Rail Road, New Jersey Transit, and New York City subway lines.
