Accusations of Fraud in Minnesota’s Social Programs
Republican officials in Minnesota have leveled serious allegations against their Democratic counterparts, claiming they have ignored widespread fraud within the state’s programs.
On Monday, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee publicly released a report detailing these fraud claims. It is alleged that Democratic Party leaders were aware of the fraudulent activities as far back as 2019.
“It’s worse than we thought,” the report states, with a committee statement indicating that “Democratic-controlled Minnesota has been aware of rampant fraud since 2019, yet state officials chose inaction. This has led to approximately $9 billion being misappropriated from taxpayers.”
The findings suggest that while billions might have been siphoned off by fraudsters, key Democratic figures—including Governor Tim Walz and Attorney General Keith Ellison—opted not to intervene.
“The report contains testimonies and documents collected by the committee that show Minnesota leadership regularly ignored reports of misconduct, retaliated against employees seeking to safeguard taxpayer resources, and allowed criminal operations to thrive, all while diverting essential support from vulnerable citizens,” a press release accompanying the report stated.
Instead of addressing the fraud, the report suggests that Democrats may have allowed it to persist to sidestep potential legal challenges or claims of discrimination. Additionally, allegations have been made against Walz for retaliating against a whistleblower who reported the issues.
The committee has called for Vice President J.D. Vance to reform Minnesota’s social service programs. Vance leads the President’s Task Force aimed at tackling fraud.
In response to the accusations, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries from New York was approached by reporters but declined to directly address the claims. “House Republicans aren’t genuinely focused on eliminating waste, fraud, and abuse in this country,” he remarked. “This is primarily because the most significant fraud happening today is coming from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.”
The governor’s office and the attorney general’s office were contacted for comments by Blaze News but did not reply immediately.
