James Carville’s Take on Kamala Harris and the 2028 Presidential Race
Veteran Democratic strategist James Carville shared his thoughts on Sunday, suggesting that former Vice President Kamala Harris might want to reconsider her aspirations for the 2028 presidential race.
The 2028 Democratic nomination landscape is already crowded with notable contenders. Harris initially garnered significant acclaim when she assumed office as Vice President alongside then-President Joe Biden. However, after a defeat in the 2024 election against President Trump, many, including various celebrities, have urged her to step back and let other candidates have a turn.
A listener named Charles, who traveled from New Zealand, posed a question about why Carville felt Harris wasn’t a strong candidate. He hinted that perhaps she could have won if Biden had opted out sooner.
This prompted Carville’s co-host Al Hunt to express disagreement, saying, “Charles, we’re not on the same page on this.”
Concerns About Harris’ 2024 Campaign Impact on Future Candidacies
Carville highlighted that Democrats might prefer to distance themselves from the 2024 campaign participants in the 2028 race. Hunt echoed similar sentiments, stating, “I thought she was a bad candidate in 2024. I thought she was a bad candidate in 2019. She had a moment where she looked like she had a chance for the nomination until her campaign progressed.” He concluded that, while he hoped she wouldn’t run again, he acknowledged a change in the election dynamics based on Biden’s earlier entry into the race.
Previously, Carville had characterized Harris’ campaign budget as “the most ineffective $2 billion we’ve ever spent.” Yet, he did suggest that she could take pride in her past achievements.
“Vice President Harris served as the district attorney for San Francisco—a major city—and later as California’s attorney general—the state’s top legal position. She was a senator from California and then became Vice President. That’s quite an impressive trajectory,” he noted.
Despite his critiques, Carville recognized the magnitude of her accomplishments: “Honestly, 99.98572% of politicians would give anything to have her level of success. I don’t feel pity for her; she had incredible opportunities.”
Possible Future Paths for Harris
“I really don’t think the Democrats are looking to revisit the 2024 situation,” Carville remarked. He suggested that party members respect Harris but believe it might be time for her to step aside. He concluded with a somewhat humorous suggestion: “Who knows? Maybe there’s a spot for you on the Supreme Court if you play your cards right.” It’s a thought that hints she might find a different but significant role in politics.
Fox News Digital reached out to Kamala Harris for her thoughts but did not receive an immediate reply.
