Marbury Weighs in on Brunson-Wembanyama Incident
Stephon Marbury didn’t hold back regarding the incident between Spurs center Victor Wembanyama and Knicks star Jalen Brunson during Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals.
The former Knicks player, who had a notable career in both the NBA and the Chinese Basketball Association, shared his thoughts in an Instagram video. He suggested that the Knicks need to “put the knife in” as they approach Game 4, which will take place at Madison Square Garden.
“Wemby is from overseas where, you know, they play differently,” Marbury remarked after San Antonio’s victory, which gave them a 2-1 lead in the series. “We aren’t accustomed to those kinds of dirty plays, like Wemby throwing Jalen Brunson around here in America.”
Marbury continued, expressing how he would handle it if he were in that situation: “If I see Wemby tossing a teammate on film… next game, I’d be aiming to slam my elbow into his ribs hard enough to bring him down.”
He further emphasized, “After seeing what he did to Jalen Brunson, you really need to be aggressive toward him next time. That’s just how it is.” Marbury, who is a three-time CBA champion and a seven-time All-Star, conveyed a strong stance on the matter.
Brunson fell to the court early in the game following a significant shove from Wembanyama. In response to a question about the physical confrontations during the match, Brunson seemed unfazed, stating, “No, I’ll answer your second question,” and adding, “What you saw is exactly what you saw.”
This wasn’t the only altercation of the game; Knicks guard Josh Hart was assessed a technical foul after an incident involving San Antonio’s Luke Cornett, which narrowed the Spurs’ lead.
