Cadillac Hopes to Build on Monaco Experience at Barcelona Grand Prix
At the recent F1 Monaco Grand Prix, Cadillac had a moment of celebration when Sergio Perez finished 10th, marking the team’s first time earning points. Unfortunately, a penalty after the race pushed him down in the standings, leaving the team without any points.
Despite the setback, Cadillac reflected positively on their performance and looks to keep that spirit alive at the upcoming Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. Team principal Graham Loudon remarked, “The team did a great job in Monaco. It’s a tough race, but everyone really came together. Finishing 10th on the track is something to be proud of, even if the results were altered. Now, we have to adapt to the different setup in Barcelona. Staying focused and solving challenges as they come up will be essential. We have a strong foundation, and we believe we can keep moving forward.”
This upcoming race in Barcelona will be noteworthy as it’s the first time the F1 grid has visited Spain this season, setting the stage for later races, including one at Madrid’s new Madring circuit.
Perez, who was vying for those crucial first points, mentioned after Monaco that the team is feeling “very motivated” heading into Barcelona. “I’m proud because we didn’t give up during the race in Monaco. It would have been amazing to score points so early on, but this experience will definitely strengthen the team going forward. There’s a lot of character within our team, which I really appreciate,” he stated. He added that Barcelona’s track would present different challenges, making it crucial to have a smooth weekend.
Valtteri Bottas, another veteran driver who had to retire from the Monaco race due to technical difficulties, shared similar sentiments. He noted, “This weekend in Barcelona is a great chance for us to get back on track and address the issues we faced previously. We’ve made significant progress since our initial visits to Barcelona. I’m hoping for a strong start and to find a good rhythm throughout the practices.” He acknowledged his history of positive results at the track and is eager to see how the weekend unfolds.
Colton Herta, a Formula 2 driver, will join the team this weekend to step in for Perez during the first practice session. Herta expressed enthusiasm, saying, “I’m ready for Barcelona. I’ve been in the simulator prepping for the track and procedures, and working with the team recently has greatly helped me get up to speed. My goal this weekend is to have a clean session, gathering data for the team, all while balancing my F2 commitments. It’s a lot, but the pressure is part of the excitement, and I’m looking forward to it.”
The F1 Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix kicks off with the first of three practice sessions on Friday, leading into qualifying on Saturday.
