The tragic last moments of a Penn State student who was killed during an attempted robbery were recorded on surveillance footage.

Billy Schmidt, aged 22, was close to his home when the incident occurred around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the Philadelphia police. By the time officers arrived, they discovered him with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was rushed to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after, at 1:47 a.m.

In the video, moments before the shots were fired, Schmidt can be heard demanding, “Give me the phone.”

Bill Schmidt, his father, remarked that his son had just come home from watching the NBA Finals with friends. Additional footage revealed another individual running and being pursued by Billy prior to the tragic shooting, in which we see the man tossing his cell phone away.

“He was truly a good guy. He cared about everyone and never caused trouble,” said Bill Schmidt. “When they took his phone, I was shocked he actually chased after them.”

His sister, Anna, expressed her confusion and grief, stating she still doesn’t know who was responsible for her brother’s death or the circumstances surrounding it.

Reportedly, Billy was a senior at Penn State, set to graduate in December, and intended to study journalism. The university expressed its sorrow over his untimely death, extending condolences to his loved ones.

As of now, no arrests have been made in relation to the murder. A local resident encouraged anyone with information to come forward, saying, “I want justice. I hope they find the person who shot Billy.”
