Nitya Raman Triumphs in LA Mayoral Primary
Nitya Raman, a progressive member of the Los Angeles City Council, has emerged victorious over former reality television personality Spencer Pratt in the recent mayoral primary.
Raman is set to compete against incumbent Karen Bass in the general election scheduled for November.
There was noticeable surprise among some observers following Pratt’s earlier momentum. “It’s hard to believe that Spencer Pratt could lose after leading by such a significant margin,” commented one onlooker.
As of a week post-election, with about 92% of votes tabulated, Bass secured 275,992 votes, while Raman received 229,576, and Pratt garnered 207,757 votes.
This election has sparked criticism aimed at California, with accusations of a “rigged” process following Pratt’s earlier advantage. He had once led by nearly 10 points over Raman, a gap that narrowed over the weekend.
On election night, Raman acknowledged her defeat in a concession speech. However, with the latest counts, she expressed gratitude for the opportunity to advance in a follow-up social media post.
“I’m truly honored to continue this fight for a healthier, safer, and more affordable Los Angeles. For too long, City Hall has been too focused on the interests of powerful backers, while everyday citizens struggle with higher rents and fewer services,” she stated.
Interestingly, some reactions have been less than supportive. TikTok influencer Liv labeled Raman a “scammer” in response to her post.
Meanwhile, Republican Congressman John Bullock accused, “After you conceded, your representatives managed to insert an implausible amount of fraudulent votes, effectively stealing another race in a failed state—Los Angeles, California.”
Adding fuel to the fire, former President Donald Trump also commented, referring to the election as “rigged,” asserting that “there’s no way Spencer Pratt could lose after leading by so much. A scandalous election!”
