Protests Erupt Amid Verdict in Carmelo Anthony Case
A 19-year-old has been convicted of murdering 17-year-old Austin Metcalf during a track meet in Texas back in April 2025. This verdict has stirred significant anger among protesters.
“We need to tell our children the truth: This is a racist country,” a woman shouted, dressed in attire resembling that of the Black Panthers, flanked by two men also in similar clothing. Her words were filled with emotion, reflecting a broader sentiment among the crowd.
She didn’t hold back, urging people to “stop that motherfucker” and continued, “No one wants to hear what we do to each other. We tell them what they do to us. White people kill white people. Mexicans kill Mexicans. I’m not going to listen to any of that nonsense today.” Her frustrations echoed through the assembled group, emphasizing her feelings about racial dynamics.
In the same vein, another individual, Panzares, expressed his disdain, labeling Texas as a “terribly racist state” and criticized the judicial process as equally biased.
Interestingly, a different woman came forward to assert that Anthony was acting in self-defense. “Anytime a white man or a white kid puts his hands on someone aggressively, it’s self-defense,” she declared firmly.
Another protester chimed in with a spirited, “Punch the motherfucker,” underscoring the intensity of emotions running through the crowd.
A supporter of Anthony declared, “We’re going to stand behind him and fight,” drawing enthusiastic agreement from those nearby. She explained her connection to Anthony was purely racial, emphasizing unity among the Black community: “We are brothers and sisters, we are indigenous peoples of this earth.”
As the verdict approached, one supporter stated that lawmakers stationed near the courthouse should be ashamed, pointing to a Black deputy and remarking on the lack of concern until police involvement was necessary.
In the incident that sparked the trial, Anthony and Metcalf were from different schools. An argument broke out when Anthony entered Metcalf’s area, culminating in a tragic confrontation where Anthony fatally stabbed Metcalf. The young victim succumbed to his injuries in the arms of his twin brother. Anthony’s defense team claimed self-defense, but the jury ultimately did not agree.
