Georgia Teacher Arrested for Alleged Sexual Assault of Student
A former teacher from Georgia faces allegations of sexually assaulting a student and attempting to persuade the student to escape to Mexico with him. This comes after investigators uncovered nearly 20,000 unsettling text messages, according to various reports.
The Roswell Police Department shared that Amanda Katz, 55, was taken into custody on June 2. Her bail was established at $25,000 as indicated in the records.
“I can’t stop looking at you, and I certainly can’t keep my hands off myself,” one of the messages reportedly said.
Katz has been charged with inappropriate sexual contact as an employee. Legally, this could result in a maximum prison sentence of 20 years.
Initially a teacher, Katz later became an administrative assistant at Roswell High School, where she had taught the alleged victim before moving to the administrative position.
Police revealed that the alleged assaults occurred multiple times off-campus, involving a 16-year-old student from December 2025 to February 2026. During the investigation, Katz resigned, and Fulton County Schools confirmed she was no longer employed by them.
Based on an affidavit, the student disclosed to police that she had unprotected sexual encounters with Katz at her home and in his vehicle. During a forensic interview, the student mentioned Katz suggested she switch schools to graduate early.
Despite feeling anxious about being discovered, the student reportedly said she was “literally scared” of getting caught with Katz. Katz was seen as a trusted family friend, who also tutored the student’s younger brother and gave gifts to the family.
The boy’s mother started suspecting something when Katz invited them to a cabin getaway over Valentine’s Day, noting the comfort between Katz and her son.
Upon finding suspicious text messages on her son’s phone, she pursued legal action, realizing something inappropriate was occurring.
After a trip, Katz returned to work and told colleagues she was experiencing a “manic episode,” claiming her “boyfriend’s mother” deemed their relationship impossible. One of her co-workers, learning her boyfriend was a student, alerted authorities.
Detectives retrieved the boy’s phone, discovering a staggering 19,585 text messages and 591 phone calls exchanged between Katz and him.
The text exchanges included discussions about their relationship, future plans together, secrecy, and numerous sexual encounters, according to the affidavit.
In one message, Katz expressed her commitment to the student, saying, “I’m going to give you everything I have. And I’m human. I know it sounds stupid, but you don’t have a choice not to be mine.”
The investigation revealed Katz had wanted the boy to move in with her after graduation, but he had mixed feelings about leaving his family. Katz even proposed they move together to Mexico, though the student was uncertain about that plan.
In the affidavit, Katz acknowledged her actions were inappropriate, stating, “I’ve done a lot of stupid things. I’ve done a lot of things. But this is top notch.”
She expressed feelings towards the student, claiming, “I love you. I can’t be with you,” and urged him to delete their conversations.
Ultimately, she told him, “I don’t want to go to jail… I’m too beautiful,” revealing a troubling awareness of the gravity of her actions.
Neither the Roswell Police Department nor Fulton County Schools has provided immediate comments regarding the situation.
