Seven people arrested for suspected anti-Israel activities related to the University of Michigan

Patel uncovers lurking security concerns for large World Cup crowds

FBI Arrests University Student Activists for Alleged Intimidation Campaign

On Wednesday, FBI Director Kash Patel revealed that a group of university student activists had been taken into custody for their involvement in a prolonged campaign of intimidation and vandalism, aimed at pressuring employees of the University of Michigan, along with local businesses and Jewish organizations, to cut ties with Israel.

The charges stem from an indictment that claims these suspects coordinated various attacks, such as spraying messages like “Intifada” and “Liberate Palestine” across homes, putting threatening notes on victims’ doors, and damaging property across eastern Michigan.

Patel emphasized that these individuals allegedly partook in a calculated campaign of violence and intimidation for over a year, particularly following the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023. “They vandalized property, left alarming messages, and even attacked homes where children were sleeping,” he stated.

The campaign reportedly targeted University of Michigan leaders, local officials, business personnel, and law enforcement.

Federal investigators noted that the alleged conspiracy occurred between March 2024 and April 2025. During this timeframe, members allegedly utilized encrypted messaging and social media platforms to identify their targets, organize criminal activities, and share details of their actions online.

As the situation escalated, authorities claim the group engaged in increasingly aggressive tactics, such as breaking windows and throwing bottles filled with chemicals into houses while children were present. Significant incidents, according to the FBI, took place on October 7, 2024, marking one year since the Hamas attack on Israel.

On that same day, one suspect reportedly targeted the Jewish Federation of Bloomfield Township, while another, employed by the university, allegedly vandalized the residence of the University of Michigan’s president.

Patel made it clear that the FBI will not overlook such behavior, assuring that the agency would hold all participants accountable for their actions. “Our FBI Detroit team, along with partners in Michigan, Illinois, and Wisconsin, executed a comprehensive investigation and successfully conducted a multi-state operation early this morning,” he remarked.

The seven arrested individuals are facing charges related to conspiracy and the communication of threats across state and international lines.
