Trump Discusses Iranian Negotiations and Bombing Campaign
On Wednesday, President Donald Trump informed Fox News correspondent Trey Yingst that Iranian officials have reached out directly, requesting the U.S. to cease its ongoing bombing campaign against Iran.
Yingst reported that the president talked about the bombing efforts, negotiations with Tehran, and the likelihood of further military action should Iran decline the proposed agreement. Trump noted that Iran is seeking an end to U.S. attacks while the military continues targeting Iranian infrastructure.
The U.S. launched 49 Tomahawk missiles at various sites within Iran, with some as close as 40 miles from Tehran, as mentioned by Yingst. Additionally, Trump indicated that U.S. aircraft are patrolling Iranian airspace, focusing on destroying radar and air defense systems located in the southwestern part of the country near the Persian Gulf.
“The president confirmed to Fox News that 49 Tomahawk missiles were fired at targets within Iran, including areas not far from Tehran,” Yingst stated. “He added that U.S. warplanes are operating over Iran, targeting radar systems and air defense installations in the southwest while Iran attempts to convince the U.S. to stop its bombing.”
Yingst noted that Iranian officials directly appealed to President Trump, urging him to end U.S. bombing efforts. Trump conveyed that while the attacks would soon cease, the U.S. would initiate further strikes if Iran did not agree to terms aimed at preventing the nation from developing nuclear weapons.
Trump reaffirmed that thwarting Iran’s potential nuclear capabilities is a primary objective of Operation Epic Fury.
“The inception of Operation Epic Fury was driven by the goal of preventing the Iranian regime from acquiring nuclear arms. I inquired about the status of the ceasefire, and he described it as ‘the most violated ceasefire in the history of the world,’” Yingst added.
The U.S. military executed additional strikes against Iranian targets on Wednesday, following Trump’s warning to Iran not to prolong negotiations surrounding the conflict. According to the military, the operation was conducted under Trump’s orders in response to Iran’s continued acts of aggression.
