Incident at the Pentagon

Several floors of the Pentagon are under lockdown and others are being evacuated following reports of a “hazardous materials incident,” as stated by a news source.

According to the report, three individuals who are familiar with the ongoing situation, along with local fire department officials, have been cited.

The Arlington Fire and Emergency Medical Services took to social media on Thursday morning, announcing that their Hazardous Materials Team is actively engaged in the situation at the Pentagon, assisting the Pentagon Force Protection Agency’s (PFPA) Hazmat Team during the incident.

Sean Parnell, a spokesperson for the Pentagon, acknowledged on Thursday that systems had detected an air quality issue that required precautionary measures until its significance could be understood.

“The Department is executing standard protection protocols, including a shelter-in-place order for the affected area,” Parnell reportedly stated. “Response teams are in place and ready to support building occupants.”

Additionally, Captain Jamie Jill from the Arlington County Fire Department noted that the PFPA’s hazardous materials response team is coordinating their efforts with the fire department.

Two of the sources indicated that floors two through five in corridors four through seven are locked down, with a third source mentioning that police personnel are equipped with gas masks and full chemical protective gear within the building.

This is a developing story. More updates to come.
