Representative Ilhan Omar from Minnesota and Sarah McBride from Delaware took jabs at Representative Nancy Mace from South Carolina after Mace faced a significant defeat in the Republican gubernatorial primary in her state.
Mace reflected on her decision to step away from Congress after this term, saying, “As our founders intended, I will be returning to the private sector.” She added that she had initially promised to serve just three terms, and she seems to be sticking to that. It’s a heartfelt moment for her, and she wouldn’t trade the experience for anything.
Omar, who was born in Somalia, didn’t hold back her comments, quipping, “Nancy, here’s a one-way ticket to your hometown with your name on it,” accompanied by a waving emoji in her post.
Mace didn’t take the critique lying down, responding to Omar with, “Say what you want about me, but I will never marry my brother.”
In previous exchanges, Mace had referred to a “one-way ticket to Somalia” for Omar in a post on her social media. Mace has been part of the U.S. House since early 2021 and, notably, she finished in fifth place in the recent primary contest. The race is now between South Carolina’s Lieutenant Governor Pamela Evett and Attorney General Alan Wilson.
Meanwhile, McBride expressed her support for women, mentioning “thoughts and prayers” to one of her peers. She pointed out a conservative figure, Riley Gaines, who also finished fifth in another significant swimming competition.
Mace continued to target Democrats, emphasizing a proposed ban on foreign-born lawmakers, echoing sentiments she’s expressed before. In a stark remark, she said, “You can say what you want about us, but at least we’ve never been confused about our gender and we’ll never marry our brothers.”
