Former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson recently discussed the animated film debut, The Star-Spangled Adventure: The Movie. He shared insights about the event at the Trump Kennedy Center and the film’s aim to use animation to narrate America’s tale.
During an appearance on Breitbart News Saturday, hosted by Matthew Boyle, Carson described the film as “very fast-paced” and “humorous.” He noted that actors like Kirk Cameron, Kevin Sorbo, and Rob Schneider lend their voices to characters in the film.
Carson mentioned that interested individuals can visit Starspangledadventures.com to register for the event at the Kennedy Center on Sunday, June 14, emphasizing that “tickets are free but registration is required.”
“The Adventure of the Stars and Stripes began a few years ago. We aim to utilize animation to unpack America’s history, piece by piece. For instance, we cover topics like Fort McHenry, Lewis and Clark, and the Declaration of Independence, among others. This comprehensive approach has culminated in a feature film that showcases 250 years of history,” Carson explained.
He continued, “Our motivation stems from the awareness that some wish to fundamentally alter our nation’s identity. They start influencing children from a young age, rewriting our true history, and shifting perceptions to focus solely on injustices faced by Native Americans and enslaved individuals, painting a picture of unfairness.”
As Carson detailed, the film aims to counter the narrative surrounding the U.S. as merely a country defined by its historical misdeeds. He highlighted, “There’s significantly more good than bad, or even ugly, in our country’s legacy.”
“We want to address those tougher subjects without glossing over them—sharing all aspects, both positive and negative. However, it’s crucial for young people to feel a sense of pride in our history and, consequently, patriotism. If that pride isn’t instilled, then outside forces might easily sway them,” he added.
When asked about what makes America distinct and what exists there that can’t be found elsewhere, Carson emphasized the fundamental “freedom to live the life you want.” He noted, “We often take this for granted because it’s our norm. But it’s about having the freedom to pursue your desires and aspirations, which isn’t the reality for many people in other countries. This is why so many are willing to risk everything to come here.”
