Jey Uso moves forward in the King of the Ring Tournament while Bloodline turmoil unfolds on 'SmackDown'

SmackDown Highlights: Providence Edition

During Friday Night SmackDown in Providence, Rhode Island, the saga of The Bloodline took an intriguing turn as Jacob Fatu showed up in the locker room. He arrived just as Jey Uso was gearing up for his King of the Ring tournament match against his brother, Jimmy Uso.

It felt a bit chaotic, honestly. Fatu mentioned he was there to speak with Solo Sikoa, who had parted ways with Roman Reigns to join MFT. Jey, on the other hand, received some motivation from Cody Rhodes before his match.

“When I win, I’m coming for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam,” Uso told Rhodes. “It’s just a little side mission, that’s all.”

Rhodes expressed hope that Jey would pursue the Undisputed WWE Championship on his own terms, not just because Roman said so. The drama was palpable.

Once in the locker room, Fatu delivered a message he received from Reigns, indicating that the “former tribal chief” wanted Sikoa to “return home.” Sikoa responded with skepticism. “Home? He wants me back? That place is a doghouse, Jacob. I don’t get it. You used to instill fear; now you’re just a messenger,” he commented, challenging Fatu’s loyalty to Reigns.

Fatu acknowledged Sikoa’s feelings but made it clear he would act if Reigns called for him. Sikoa remarked that if Reigns wanted to return, he’d happily assist, suggesting that it might not be a warm welcome.

The tension didn’t end there. Sikoa overheard Royce Keys while Jey Uso was preparing for his match. Sikoa warned Keys to stay out of the conflict with Reigns to avoid unnecessary fallout.

In the ring, LA Knight seized the moment after some initial back-and-forth, but once he appeared to be in control, things shifted. Amid distractions, Jey Uso managed to pull off an impressive victory by pinning Knight, ensuring his place in the semifinals against Jevon Evans, with Oba Femi set to face Dominik Mysterio in the other match.

Sami Zayn and Cody Rhodes’ Tense Exchange

Sami Zayn took the opportunity to remind the audience in Providence that he considers himself the “last true good guy” in wrestling. He seemed a bit taken aback by the mixed reception but acknowledged his loyal fans from Europe.

He addressed Rhodes, aiming to clear the air after a series of altercations. Zayn revisited some previous incidents involving Gunter, seeking the truth as fans chimed in with chants.

The conversation turned confrontational when Rhodes suggested Zayn wasn’t the same person the fans used to love. “You’re whining. It’s like you’re desperate for attention,” Rhodes said, which, well, hit a nerve. Zayn retaliated, leading to a tense moment where both exchanged slaps before Zayn stormed off.

Gunther’s Championship Rematch Plans

Gunther made it clear he wanted a rematch for the Undisputed WWE Championship. After some back-and-forth with the SmackDown GM Nick Aldis, he expressed the need to have a referee familiar with the rules but also someone who could understand the nuance of the match. Surprisingly, he chose Zayn for that responsibility, much to Aldis’s dismay.

Next week, this sets up an interesting title defense for Rhodes against Gunther, with Zayn officiating.

Rhea Ripley’s Injury Update

Last week, Rhea Ripley made an appearance wearing a knee brace, but it was evident she wasn’t ready to compete. In a match featuring Jade Cargill and Meechin, Ripley’s recovery was fresh on everyone’s minds.

Wade Barrett provided insight into Ripley’s condition, explaining that they were assessing her injury from last week in Italy. The timeline for her return depended on how well she responded to treatment.

Queen of the Ring Tournament Progress

The latest updates from the Queen of the Ring Tournament revealed semi-finalists: Cargill, Charlotte Flair, Sol Luka, and Lyra Valkyrie, all vying for a spot in the next round. Cargill hoped a repeat victory would restore her standing, but Flair used her experience to outmaneuver rising stars.

Flair’s tactical skills played a critical role in her success, leading her to advance against Liv Morgan. In contrast, Iyo Sky will face Raquel Rodriguez in the other semi-final. The winners will meet at Night of Champions.

SmackDown Match Results

  • Charlotte Flair def. Lyra Valkyrie
  • Jade Cargill and Sol Luka advanced in the Queen of the Ring Tournament.
  • Rey Fenix def. Axiom to retain the AAA Cruiserweight Championship.
