Texas Woman Sues McDonald’s Over Injuries from Breakfast Sandwich

A woman from Texas is taking legal action against McDonald’s after suffering serious injuries from an egg-filled sausage McMuffin purchased at a Midtown Manhattan location.

Yvette Hines filed her lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court on May 26. She alleges that the breakfast sandwich she received was entirely “unfit for human consumption,” as outlined in her court documents.

According to her complaint, the sandwich consumed on May 25, 2023, was tainted with “hazardous substances, contaminants, poisons, toxins, parasites, germs, and/or microorganisms.” These, she claims, led to various significant personal injuries.

Hines reported feeling “severely unwell and nauseous” after eating what was supposed to be one of her favorite fast food breakfasts. She described experiencing “severe pain and suffering throughout her body.”

Additionally, Hines states that the sandwich caused her to endure “multiple surgeries, procedures, and treatments,” which resulted in “severe and permanent damage” to her physical, neurological, and mental well-being.

The experience left her so ill that she couldn’t fulfill her work or manage daily household tasks, leading to considerable medical expenses. She anticipates ongoing treatment will be necessary.

Her attorney, Mark Silian, has not responded to requests for comment regarding the specifics of Hines’ alleged injuries. The lawsuit accuses McDonald’s of “negligence, carelessness, and willful neglect.”

Defendants included in the lawsuit cover not just McDonald’s but also the specific stores involved, their franchisees, and the companies that own the real estate of these locations.

A representative from McDonald’s has yet to comment on the matter.
