Knicks Merchandise Sales Soar After Championship Win
The New York Knicks have set a record for merchandise sales on Fanatics.com, achieving more in just 24 hours after their remarkable victory than any other winning team across sports in recent years.
Following the historic win, excited fans rushed to buy championship-themed products, leading to over 8,000 orders every minute for Knicks gear.
In comparison, the Philadelphia Eagles logged around 5,500 orders per minute during last year’s Super Bowl victory, making them the closest competitor in merchandise sales, according to Fanatics.
“What we’re seeing with the Knicks is unprecedented in the world of sports,” said Sam Archibald, Fanatics’ chief merchandising officer, in a conversation on Monday.
Knicks merchandise includes everything from a $124.99 Jalen Brunson jersey to a $22 toddler bodysuit. Interestingly, jersey number 11 appears to be the fan favorite.
There’s also a collaboration with Fanatics and a local paper to offer a special edition featuring historic front and back pages. Shipments for this high-demand item are set to start on July 6th.
The surge in sales actually started when the Knicks clinched the Eastern Conference championship on May 25, breaking the previous record established by the Golden State Warriors in 2022.
Fanatics reported that merchandise sales significantly surged within the initial two hours post-game; their conference victory had a larger impact than the Warriors’ title win in the five days that followed.
“That really illustrated the depth of their fanbase,” Archibald noted.
During the NBA Finals last week, Fanatics deployed “fan wagons” across popular New York locations like Bryant Park and Rockefeller Center, creating lines that stretched to 150 people at some points.
Archibald mentioned the upcoming ticker tape parade is expected to drive another spike in sales.
The New York metropolitan area emerged as the top market for Knicks merchandise, with Florida also showing significant interest in the team’s blue and orange products. Fanatics offers over 300 items related to the Knicks.
Although the 2016 Chicago Cubs hold the record for sales in the weeks following a championship, Archibald believes the Knicks are well on their way to surpass that figure, despite the Cubs having waited 108 years for their World Series win.
