Amanda Seyfried Discusses Hiring a Bodyguard After Comments on Charlie Kirk
Amanda Seyfried shared that she felt compelled to hire a bodyguard following her remarks about the assassination of Charlie Kirk, a conservative political figure.
In an interview with British GQ, published on Monday, the actress from “Housemaid” reflected on the backlash she received after labeling Kirk, who was killed at a university last fall, as “hateful.” This, she noted, led to feelings of insecurity about her safety.
On the controversy, Seyfried expressed, “A, I’m entitled to voice my feelings; and B, I strive to be kind in how I express them.” But she also mentioned, “There’s a lot of fear and hatred out there, an urge to destroy. I’ve only seen a fraction of that, really.”
“I want my kids to feel secure speaking their minds as long as it poses no harm,” the 40-year-old actress continued. “So, I found myself in a dilemma: What do I do or say? Suddenly, I’m at the airport with a bodyguard, thinking, ‘This is absurd.'”
Kirk was tragically shot while on stage at Utah Valley University during his American comeback tour and was just 31 years old at the time.
Seyfried highlighted the need for space for discussions, insisting, “While I can express outrage over misogynistic and racist rhetoric, the murder of Charlie Kirk was both disturbing and deplorable. No one deserves such violence.”
Following her initial comments, she defended her stance on social media. “We seem to be overlooking the nuances of humanity,” she said, reiterating her belief in the importance of truth and personal opinion in discussions.
She also pointed out a broader societal issue, saying, “This country is mourning too many senseless violent deaths and shootings. Can we at least find common ground on that?”
In a December 2025 interview, Seyfried stood by her statements, insisting her remarks were based on genuine realities. “What I said is indeed true, and everyone is free to hold their opinions,” she concluded.
