Video: 'The Odyssey' Actor Elliot Page Discusses Healthy Masculinity as Moving Away from 'Expectations'

Elliot Page discusses the concept of “healthy masculinity,” suggesting it involves “stepping back” from societal pressures.

In a podcast with actress Ilana Glazer, Page, who transitioned from Ellen to Elliot in 2020, talked about “society’s pressure to conform” and the importance of finding a personal sense of masculinity and inner peace.

The Juno star, who underwent a double mastectomy as part of his transition, shared his thoughts on what he considers “healthy masculinity”—a concept he believes Glazer has also embraced.

“For me, healthy masculinity,” Page explained, “is about recognizing when I feel pressure or expectations and stepping away from that. It’s a closing off or adapting in a way that feels limiting—like ‘this’ is what you have to do, but instead, it’s about opening up in different directions.”

“I would catch myself thinking, ‘Elliot, maybe tone down the hand gestures a bit,’” Page recalled with a smile.

He added, “Sometimes I would hear guys saying, ‘Hey, are you Victor from Umbrella Academy? We should take a photo!’ and I’d think, ‘Should I step back as well?’”

“It’s like, what is going on, Elliot? That thinking doesn’t help anyone,” Page reflected.

Recently, Page was in the spotlight due to rumors claiming he would play the legendary warrior Achilles in Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film, Odyssey. This casting choice was deemed unexpected and drew criticism. However, the rumors were later debunked, clarifying Page’s actual role in the film is not as high-profile as Achilles.
