Chase Sapphire Preferred introduces new benefits and a 100,000-point bonus: 5 actions to take now

It’s now confirmed that the recently updated Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card went live on June 15th, bringing various benefits for both new and existing cardholders.

This includes a limited-time welcome offer of 100,000 points after spending $5,000 within the first three months of opening the account, marking the highest bonus the card has had.

To maximize these new benefits, here’s what you should know and consider doing.

Redeem $100 Chase Travel Hotel Credit

Chase Sapphire Preferred holders can receive a $50 to $100 credit on their hotel statements for each anniversary year.

This credit is applicable for prepaid hotel bookings made through Chase Travel℠, providing a simple way to mitigate the card’s $95 annual fee.

The good news is both new and existing cardholders can benefit from this. For instance, if you reserve a $150 hotel via Chase Travel and use your Sapphire Preferred, you could end up only paying $50 out-of-pocket after the $100 credit.

If you already used your $50 anniversary credit prior to June 15th, you’ll receive an extra $50 credit now. However, if you haven’t used your anniversary credit, you will be eligible for the full $100.

Activate Your Free Apple TV Subscription

Chase Sapphire management is currently offering a year-long Apple TV subscription, valued at up to $156, for free. Cardholders need to enroll through Chase Benefits & Rewards and link their Apple ID by December 31, 2026.

If you hold a paid Apple TV subscription directly through Apple, this new free subscription will terminate your existing one. When the free subscription from Chase ends, your paid subscription will automatically restart at its current price.

New 3 Points Per Dollar Bonus Category

Starting June 15th, the Sapphire Preferred card has added a bonus category of 3 points per dollar spent on gas, EV charging, and vacation home rentals booked through platforms like Airbnb and Vrbo.

This new category joins the existing ones that offer 3 points per dollar for worldwide dining, online grocery purchases (excluding Target and similar stores), and streaming services. Additionally, users earn 2 points per dollar on travel expenses, such as flights and hotels.

To fully benefit from these categories, it’s advisable to use the Sapphire Preferred card for relevant purchases. At 3 points per dollar for gas, it’s a competitive option given the value of Chase Ultimate Rewards points.

Apply for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or Nexus

If you haven’t already, now might be a good time to consider applying for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck, or Nexus.

Chase Sapphire Preferred provides a $120 application fee credit for these expedited services, which is quite beneficial given the card’s modest annual fee.

For those mainly flying domestically, TSA PreCheck may suffice and is typically easier to obtain.

On the other hand, if you frequently travel internationally, you might prefer Global Entry (or Nexus for trips to Canada). The statement credit covers application fees which include TSA PreCheck benefits.

Pay for Your Trip with Your Card for Added Protection

The Chase Sapphire Preferred card offers a wide array of travel protections, and as of June 15th, it now includes emergency evacuation and transportation options.

To access these benefits, you’ll need to pay for eligible travel with your card.

Thinking About Applying? Bonuses Await New Cardholders

If you haven’t yet claimed your bonus, there’s a compelling reason to look into the Chase Sapphire Preferred card now. It’s currently offering a limited-time welcome bonus of 100,000 points after spending $5,000 on purchases in the first three months.

This is only the third time in the card’s 17-year history that such a substantial bonus has been offered. This bonus can hold a value exceeding $2,000 when optimized through Chase’s extensive network of hotel and airline partners, which is impressive for a card with an annual fee of just $95.

What Changes for Existing Cardholders and New Applicants?

The new benefits, available from June 15th, include a larger $100 Chase Travel hotel credit, a credit for Global Entry, TSA PreCheck or Nexus applications, Apple TV offerings, and additional travel protections.

However, those who opened their accounts prior to June 15th will temporarily keep two legacy advantages: a 10% anniversary points bonus on purchases until October 1, 2026, and the current transfer rate of 1:1 to World of Hyatt until September 30th.

Conclusion

For most travelers, this card has never been better, especially with these new limited-time bonuses. Existing cardholders can activate their Apple TV, utilize the expanded $100 Chase Travel hotel credit, apply for Global Entry or TSA PreCheck, and earn bonus points on a wider range of expenses.

If your card was opened before June 15th, don’t forget to take advantage of the 10% anniversary bonus and the current transfer rate to World of Hyatt before it expires.
