The U.S. Mint is set to launch three products shaped like the Liberty Bell to mark the nation’s 250th anniversary. This includes two gold coins of high value and a silver medal, all produced in very limited numbers.
Sales for these exclusive items will kick off on Thursday, July 16th at noon Eastern Time, with further details provided below.
The three proof coins weigh one ounce, half an ounce, and half an ounce, respectively. Each piece will have a maximum mintage of just 2,026 for this anniversary year, and customers can only order one of each item.
This gold coin showcases the outline of the Liberty Bell and is reportedly the first non-circular coin released in recent U.S. history. Its counterpart gold coin marks the first non-circular medal in the same timeframe.
The idea was first shared with the public in late 2024 when the Mint began exploring the possibility of Liberty Bell-shaped coins and medals to celebrate the milestone.
The Mint explains that the unique shape is a result of extensive planning and innovation. Each piece was hand-loaded and pressed at the Philadelphia Mint’s research and development lab, which is why production is limited due to the required level of detail and precision.
Both gold coins are crafted from .9999 pure gold. The one-ounce gold coin has a face value of $250, while the half-ounce variety is valued at $125.
The front features the iconic cracked Liberty Bell along with the figure of Liberty. Inscriptions include the double date 1776-2026 and the phrase “IN GOD WE TRUST.”
The reverse side displays Independence Hall with fireworks in the background. The bell’s yoke is inscribed with “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA,” while “E PLURIBUS UNUM” appears below it. The soundbow notes each coin’s face value, weight, and composition in .9999 FINE GOLD.
A one-ounce coin is just a bit larger than the half-ounce version, despite containing double the gold. Its dimensions are 0.888 by 1.024 inches and 0.167 inches thick, whereas the half-ounce measures 0.883 by 1.024 inches and is 0.104 inches thick.
The silver medal is stamped with .500 troy ounces of .999 pure silver, showcasing a similar design of the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, though it does not have a face value.
The front displays a bell with “LIBERTY” inscribed on the shoulder, and the reverse shows “UNITED STATES OF AMERICA” on the yoke, along with the dual dates 1776-2026 on the sound bow.
This silver medal shares the same dimensions as the one-ounce gold coin, measuring 0.888 by 1.024 inches and 0.160 inches thick.
All three items feature smooth edges, were crafted at the Philadelphia Mint, and bear the P Mint mark on the reverse side.
This release is part of the U.S. Mint’s broader program celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence. Other planned 2026 offerings include redesigned circulation coins, dual-dated collector products, and modern interpretations of historical U.S. coins.
