Colin Gosselin to Publish Memoir Revealing Family Secrets
Colin Gosselin is set to unveil “the shocking side of his picture-perfect family” in a revealing memoir scheduled for release this fall.
The son of Jon and Kate Gosselin has announced his book titled “In the Shadow of 8: Surviving the Reality of Childhood.”, which will hit shelves on October 13th.
According to the publisher’s description shared on Tuesday, the memoir promises to “share stories never before told.” Colin mentions, “I ran away and found my way back out of the darkness.”
The statement elaborated: “This is a reckoning with the dark side of fame: the systems, entourages, and institutions that allowed one boy to be overlooked.”
In this memoir, the 22-year-old will reflect on “the basement where he was held captive and hid for years, and where he was forced to administer a powerful cocktail of anti-psychotic drugs to an 11-year-old boy.”
Additionally, it hints at “Christmas morning, when the presents were collected as soon as the cameras stopped.” Intriguingly, the cover features an old photo of Kate with her hand over Colin’s mouth.
Besides Colin, Kate and Jon, who is 49, are parents to sextuplets (Arden, Joel, Alexis, Hannah, and Leah) as well as 25-year-old twins, Carla and Madeline.
Their family was known for the TLC reality show ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’, which aired from 2007 to 2017 and later became ‘Kate Plus 8’ following the couple’s divorce.
In the subsequent year, Jon obtained sole custody of Colin, and Hannah later moved in with her father. Since then, Colin has made headlines for accusing his mother of “child abuse and exploitation,” alleging instances of being zip-tied and locked in a basement, and being institutionalized. Kate has denied these abuse claims consistently.
Meanwhile, in 2023, Madeline defended their mother, alleging that Colin displayed “physical violence” and “hate speech,” which both Colin and Jon have denied.
Colin has mentioned that while his childhood was “broadcast to millions,” there were many aspects that were “deliberately hidden.” He expressed, “In the end, I’ll share what was really going on behind the scenes. This book is about truth, survival, resilience, and finding your voice after years of being silenced.”
He noted that he previously kept his experiences private out of fear and a belief that no one would take him seriously, saying, “I was scared… I wasn’t ready.”
Colin is currently estranged from Kate and has been living with Jon since 2018. He remarked, “Writing this book forced me to revisit some of the most difficult moments in my life, but it also gave me something I had been searching for for a long time: my own voice. This is not the story people think they know. This is the story I have lived.”
While Jon shared a pre-order link for the book on his Instagram Stories, Kate has yet to acknowledge the upcoming release on social media. Representatives for both Jon and Kate have not commented on the matter.
