DHS calls on Gov. Spanberger to take action following charges against illegal immigrant in VA

Controversy Over Virginia’s Sanctuary Policy

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) expressed strong discontent on social media regarding Virginia’s sanctuary policy. They are urging Governor Abigail Spanberger to intervene and prevent the release of an undocumented immigrant charged with sexually assaulting a young girl.

Jose Nahun Aleman Hernandez, 43, from Woodbridge, was arrested on June 3 by the Prince William Police and is facing charges of aggravated sexual assault.

According to the police report, the assault occurred while the 5-year-old victim was at her babysitter’s home, where Hernandez was also present. It’s reported that the inappropriate contact happened sometime between January 2023 and March 2026. Fortunately, there were no physical injuries reported by the child.

After his arrest, Hernandez was granted a $5,000 secured bond, which has raised alarms among authorities who are calling for the governor to ensure he remains incarcerated.

DHS made a statement highlighting that “Sanctuary Spanberger’s refusal to cooperate” has made Virginia less safe and turned the state into a target for crimes committed by undocumented individuals.

As of Wednesday afternoon, there has been no public response from Governor Spanberger. Her office did not provide immediate comments to inquiries about the situation.
