Trump signs Iran agreement in Versailles, 60-day period begins to finalize deal

Trump Signs Iran Agreement at Versailles

At the Palace of Versailles, President Donald Trump signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Iran, marking the beginning of a crucial 60-day period aimed at finalizing a long-awaited peace deal between the United States and Iran.

White House Deputy Chief of Staff Dan Scavino confirmed that the signing occurred just before a dinner at the historic French palace on Wednesday evening.

French President Emmanuel Macron witnessed the signing and shared his observations, with a video capturing him beside Trump during the event.

“President Trump signed tonight at Versailles the agreement between Iran and the United States,” Macron expressed on social media. “This agreement paves the way for lasting peace and allows the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. It is an important step in the right direction for our compatriots that will soon enable a decrease in energy prices,” he added.

As he left the palace that night, Trump confirmed the signing, stating simply, “It’s signed. I signed it in Versailles.”

That remark came as Trump exited the venue, solidifying the deed.

During a press briefing the following day, Vice President JD Vance announced that the 60-day countdown had officially started.

On the same day, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, acting as a mediator, also signed the agreement, which he referred to as the “Islamabad MoU.” According to his office, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also put his signature to it.

“May this Memorandum of Understanding serve as an enduring foundation for greater understanding, mutual respect and shared prosperity for the complete region,” Sharif stated.

He asserted that the MOU would lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz by Iran and the lifting of the U.S. naval blockade on Iranian ports.

The oil prices have been trending downward since the announcement of the agreement earlier in the week, with crude oil pricing at around $74 per barrel on Thursday morning. This decline seems to be mirrored in gas prices, which have dropped to just under $4 per gallon—the lowest in nearly three months, according to recent reports.

The formal signing ceremony for the MOU was initially planned for Friday in Switzerland, although its impact on the events from Wednesday remains uncertain.
