Warriors Eyeing Star Players During NBA Offseason

The NBA offseason is still unfolding, and the Warriors are reportedly looking to add another standout player to join Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and possibly Jimmy Butler.

As noted by ESPN’s Anthony Slater, there’s considerable interest from the Warriors in signing Kawhi Leonard, with Trey Murphy also being considered as a potential acquisition.

The Warriors’ pursuit of Leonard isn’t a new development. Interest in him dates back to last season’s trade deadline, where they supposedly attempted to trade for him but were met with resistance from Clippers owner Steve Ballmer.

On Friday morning, the buzz around Leonard intensified following comments from Sam Amick. According to him, Leonard is firmly on the Warriors’ radar as a priority addition, although the uncertainty around his availability remains a major question mark in the league.

While the situation with Leonard is still unclear, there’s a chance the Warriors may look into trading Murphy to the Pelicans. With the No. 11 pick in the upcoming NBA draft, Golden State appears to be exploring options that could include Murphy to secure a spot in the top 20.

Murphy, 26, is having a breakout season, averaging 21 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, showcasing his developing potential as a forward.

He’s also been mentioned in various trade discussions this summer, with whispers of a potential three-way trade involving the Bucks and Celtics that could feature stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo and Jaylen Brown.

As for Murphy’s value, Kevin O’Connor from ‘The Kevin O’Connor Show’ suggested that while Golden State may find Murphy easier to acquire, their desire for Kawhi Leonard remains strong. Last season, Leonard proved he can still perform at an elite level, averaging nearly 28 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game, even at 34 years old.
