Chaos at South Carolina River Hangout

A well-known gathering spot in South Carolina erupted into chaos when a significant brawl broke out, with alarming footage capturing the frenzy of dozens of individuals engaging in fights both above and below the water.

The altercation occurred on June 6 at 601 Sandbar along the Congaree River in Calhoun County, where multiple fights took place at once while a large crowd looked on.

In one video, groups can be seen throwing punches, while others attempt to intervene. There are clips showing people grappling and punching in knee-deep water, with bystanders shouting and filming the commotion on their phones.

As a result of this violent episode, six individuals have been arrested, and the incident is currently under investigation by the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office.

A former investigator mentioned that more than 20 people were involved in the fracas, with at least three sustaining injuries ranging from swollen eyes to more serious head traumas.

Calhoun County Sheriff Thomas Summers noted, “The injuries were serious.” Although the specific cause of the violence hasn’t been disclosed, alcohol seems to have played a role, with numerous instances of underage drinking reported.

Summers remarked on the potential severity of the situation: “When you see a lot of people swinging and fighting, it could have been a really bad situation and there must be injuries that we don’t hear about. That’s the nature of that kind of beast.”

He also emphasized, “Water and drinks don’t mix. It might be a family-friendly environment, but given the circumstances, this is not a good place to take your kids.”

The fight took place during the annual Sparkleberry Duck Run, which attracts boaters and outdoor enthusiasts to the river.

Out of the six arrested, they have been identified as Brendan Bonds, Hunter Dalzell, Lucas Scott, Edward Scott, Austin Mizell, and Taylor Knudson, and have been charged with various assaults and breaches of peace related to the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities anticipate additional arrests as they continue to assess video footage and information shared by the public.

In light of the unrest, Sheriff Summers stated firmly that “this type of behavior will not be tolerated,” urging anyone with further details to reach out to investigators.
