Phillies Dominate Mets in 15-3 Clash
Saturday was quite the day for the Phillies, as they celebrated a substantial 15-3 victory over the Mets. Bryce Harper, in a standout performance, became the 11th player in the franchise’s history to hit for the cycle, while Kyle Schwarber showcased his power by connecting for three home runs, including two in the same inning.
Harper launched his 16th home run of the season right in the first inning. By the fifth inning, he had already completed his cycle. After hitting a double and scoring on an error in the third inning, things really ramped up. He capped it off by hitting a two-run triple into the left-center gap in the fifth, marking him as the first Phillies player to hit for the cycle since Weston Wilson back in August 2024.
Interestingly, Harper’s achievement came quickly, being the first player to hit for the cycle in the first five innings since Adrian Beltre did it with the Rangers in 2015. But, there was a bit of a stir regarding his triple. Some fans raised eyebrows, suggesting that the Mets’ defense focused on him at bat—it seemed they were a bit unprepared as he raced toward third base.
On Schwarber’s side, he hit a mammoth 456-foot home run off Mets right-hander Freddy Peralta, extending the Phillies’ lead to eight runs during the third inning. He didn’t stop there; later in the same inning, he managed another three-run hit, also approximately 457 feet away, which is pretty incredible, isn’t it?
With this performance, Schwarber joined the ranks of the 67 players in Major League history to hit two home runs in a single inning, a feat accomplished earlier this season by Houston’s Yordan Alvarez. As the game progressed, Schwarber hit his third home run off reliever Tobias Myers in the seventh inning, making it a remarkable 28 long balls for the season—he’s leading the league, no doubt.
