Musk’s Accountability Questioned by Rep. Khanna
California Democratic Representative Ro Khanna has raised concerns about CEO Elon Musk, suggesting that “4.5 million children” may face dire consequences due to government spending cuts. He advocated for accountability from Musk, especially if Democrats regain control of Congress.
During an appearance on the “I’ve Had It” podcast, Khanna stated, “When you come to power, you have to be accountable.” He highlighted the disparity between the celebration of Musk’s wealth—creating a vast number of millionaires—and the potential harm to vulnerable children globally resulting from the reduction of USAID programs.
Khanna added, “He needs to answer for that… He should be investigated, especially regarding what he did with DOGE.” This comment pointed to concerns over Musk’s influence and responsibilities.
Host Jennifer Welch echoed Khanna’s sentiment, claiming that Musk’s actions had, in a sense, contributed to widespread suffering. “If you call yourself a pro-life party, as you say you do, then it’s astonishing that there are millions being harmed,” Welch remarked.
Following Musk’s rise as a major financial figure, Democratic criticism has intensified. Notably, Musk’s wealth surged dramatically following a recent IPO for SpaceX.
Khanna also supports a proposed wealth tax aimed at billionaires, which would impose a 5% tax on assets exceeding $1 billion. He remarked on the stark economic divides within the country, contrasting the wealth generated in places like Silicon Valley with the struggles of everyday families dealing with essential expenses. “We can impose modest taxes on billionaires to ensure everyone has a fair chance,” he stated in a recent press release.
