Former Democratic fundraiser claims party leaders concealed Biden's cognitive issues

Lindy Lee, a former Democratic fundraiser who changed her party allegiance due to overlooked warnings regarding President Joe Biden’s decision to withdraw from the 2024 election, has shared insights about the critical signs that were missed. In an interview, she expressed her disbelief that there were those within the party aware of Biden’s cognitive issues who chose to ignore them publicly.

Lee noted that her forthcoming book, “Unburdened,” will delve deeper into the Democratic Party’s internal struggles and the panic that developed as it became clear that Biden lacked robust support even among his own supporters ahead of his exit from the race.

She remarked on the contradiction of party leaders publicly defending the president while privately expressing concern over his decline. Many leaders, she asserted, feared the repercussions of openly questioning Biden’s competency, likening it to an unspoken rule of self-preservation within the party.

Reflecting on an email from Adam Schiff, she highlighted that he was not alone in having concerns about Biden’s capabilities. Schiff’s spokesperson confirmed that he had indeed raised concerns following the president’s poor performance during a debate, which ultimately led to calls for Biden’s resignation a month later.

Lee emphasized how many inside the party were reluctant to challenge Biden, citing an internal poll indicating that no credible candidates were ready to take him on. She conveyed a sense of resignation among potential challengers, who ultimately concluded that they could not win in the primaries against him. In her view, this situation wasn’t purely about opposing Trump but was largely driven by self-interest.

Moreover, Lee expressed doubts about Vice President Kamala Harris as a candidate, characterizing her as the weakest option available. She referenced polling data comparing Harris to other Democratic figures like Buttigieg and Newsom, suggesting that she doesn’t inspire confidence as a successor.

In conclusion, Lee captured the intricate web of loyalty, kindness, and apprehension that surrounds Biden, reflecting on the decades of relationships he has built within the party and the hesitance among his allies to chart a different course.
