Texas Rangers Celebrate Father’s Day with Special Events
The Texas Rangers are working hard to be known as the most family-friendly team in baseball.
This year, in addition to their annual Pride Night, the Rangers made a concerted effort to honor fathers during Father’s Day.
The Rangers secured a close 4-3 victory against the San Diego Padres, with a focus on their players’ fathers. Before the game, players and their kids gathered outside the dugout for the national anthem, and the family-themed activities didn’t stop there.
Players spoke in videos about the influence their dads had on their lives and careers. Pitcher Jacob deGrom was one of the first to share his thoughts. He mentioned how his father still plays catch with him during the offseason and emphasized that his son has been dedicated to baseball since childhood.
“My father would let me hit as many ground balls as I wanted and play catch as long as I desired,” deGrom recalled. “After work, we’d go home and do something until it was time to eat and sleep.”
Relief pitcher Jacob Lutz expressed deep admiration for his father, saying, “He’s my idol. I don’t think he’s ever taken a nap in his life.” He reflected on how special it is to still be able to play catch with him even at this age.
First baseman Jake Berger remembered his mornings waking up to work on a turkey farm in Indiana alongside his dad. “We were up at 5 a.m. every day,” he said. Berger noted that this work ethic was something his father instilled in him, leading him to reflect on the love and respect he felt growing up. “I want to pass that on to my own kids,” he added.
To cap off the day, the Rangers shared some lighthearted dad jokes with fans, such as asking, “How does the moon style her hair?” in a playful manner. Outfielder Brandon Nimmo read, “Eat it up,” while pitcher Nathan Eovaldi offered, “What did the Scarecrow win an award for?” The punchline? “He was standing in the field.”
