Reasons JP Morgan attorneys oppose Chirayu Rana's decision to withdraw his significant 'sex slave' lawsuit

Chirayu Rana, a former JPMorgan banker, is trying to withdraw his controversial “sex slavery” lawsuit against the bank and its female supervisor. However, JPMorgan is pushing back, aiming to stop him from dropping the case so easily.

Recent court documents reveal that Rana and his legal team will have to confront allegations in the lawsuit that JPMorgan’s attorneys say are “materially false.”

Lawyers for JPMorgan and banking executive Lorna Hadjidini argue that Rana’s efforts to dismiss the case are simply an attempt to avoid accountability. They describe his actions as “blatant forum shopping,” indicating he wants to escape a court’s jurisdiction while sidestepping a judge’s order to refile the lawsuit under his real name.

In a strong legal response, JPMorgan’s attorneys have criticized Rana’s new lawyers for employing tactics similar to those of his previous legal team. They claim these attorneys are promising evidence to the press while simultaneously looking to delay proceedings and evade scrutiny for the alleged falsehoods in the case.

Rana’s new counsel seems to be facing hurdles, as JPMorgan’s representative, Cardel B. Spangler, insists that Rana can’t just switch gears because he has new lawyers. He argues that if Rana wants to drop the case in this court, he should not get the chance to refile elsewhere.

Meanwhile, the atmosphere surrounding this legal battle has turned quite hostile, prompting JPMorgan to ask a judge to require Rana’s former attorney—who terminated representation just hours before a court hearing—to disclose any necessary information about false evidence and statements involved.

This lawsuit, which was filed in April, quickly gained notoriety. It alleges that Rana was drugged and coerced into sexual slavery by Hadjidini, who is also accused of making racist remarks about her spouse.

A particularly striking assertion from the lawsuit includes Rana claiming that Hadjidini insulted his wife in a degrading manner. Both JPMorgan and Hadjidini have consistently stated that these allegations are entirely fictitious.

They contend that Rana should either continue with the case in state court or have it dismissed outright, along with coverage of their legal expenses.

Hadjidini has even filed a countersuit for defamation against Rana, which she believes should be resolved before he attempts to initiate a new lawsuit.

While her team has attempted to engage with Rana’s lawyers about drafting a federal complaint twice, they say their requests have been ignored.

In a recent rebuttal, Rana’s legal representatives criticized the opposing attorneys’ courtroom strategies, describing them as overly dramatic and based more on emotions than factual grounding.

Rana’s attorney pointed out that claims of forum shopping were unfounded. He emphasized that Rana plans to meet the Thursday deadline to refile the lawsuit in federal court, this time using his true name. He asserts this situation is a tactic employed by defendants to distract from the allegations and cast themselves as victims.
