Cristiano Ronaldo Makes World Cup History

On Tuesday, Cristiano Ronaldo added another remarkable achievement to his career by scoring against Uzbekistan, making him the first player in history to find the net in six World Cups.

The goal came after Joao Cancelo delivered a precise pass from the right side that Ronaldo skillfully finished at the near post, placing Portugal ahead 1-0. Not long after, in the 39th minute, Ronaldo scored again, contributing to Portugal’s commanding 4-0 lead.

However, his performance in the earlier match against DR Congo drew criticism. In that game, Ronaldo managed only 25 touches and had three attempts, none of which were on target. It wasn’t the ideal start he or his fans had hoped for.

“Not the start we wanted, but this is not over yet,” Ronaldo shared on Instagram, urging everyone to “relax and concentrate on the next game.” His frustrations were compounded as contemporaries like Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Erling Haaland shone brightly, each netting at least four goals in the tournament so far.

Questions about Ronaldo’s fitness have lingered since the 2022 World Cup, sparking debates about whether he’s capable of performing at this level. Despite this, his teammate Joao Neves stood by him: “We know what Ronaldo has done for the national team, but right now, I feel like he’s one of us,” Neves remarked. “He’s just another player trying to help, contributing like the rest of us.”

Yet, proving his skeptics wrong, Ronaldo struck for a second time in the 40th minute, showcasing that he still has the prowess to make an impact.

Since his debut in 2006, Ronaldo’s World Cup journey has been quite a ride. He played 482 minutes and scored just once in his first tournament. He netted another goal in each of the subsequent tournaments in 2010, 2014, and 2022, but it was in 2018 that he truly shined by scoring a hat-trick against Spain.
