Wednesday’s Screencaps

It was quite a night at the ballpark, with mayflies swarming like it was some sort of bizarre natural event. But, hey, the sun is shining now, the birds are singing, and it’s a lovely morning here as we dive into another edition of Wednesday’s Screencaps.

This morning, I fired up Twitter and was taken aback to see Freddy, a German soccer fan, cruising through Elmore, Ohio, on his way to catch more World Cup matches. This town holds some memories for me—it’s where we took the kids to meet Santa in a quaint log cabin and the spot of Mrs. Screencaps’ beloved greenhouse, Bench. Not to mention, my 14U recreational team will face off against Elmore’s team next Monday.

I can’t quite say that Elmore is the pinnacle of America, but it embodies values like family, hard work, and community. You know, those qualities that reflect a good life without giving too much thought to society’s noise. Meanwhile, just outside Toledo, officials have unveiled new safety measures for Fourth of July fireworks due to, well, let’s say, disruptive individuals who can’t resist playing with local events.

If you find yourself on the Ohio Turnpike, I’d definitely recommend stopping by Elmore. Check out the Schödel Gardens, a lovely landscape crafted by Joe and Marie Schödel decades ago. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

Will I be able to survive my upcoming golf trip?

I’m gearing up for an intense golf trip—172 holes in just 5 days. It’ll include two scrambles, a two-man Ryder Cup scramble, and one round of stroke play. A real challenge ahead!

There will be 16 of us in the first half, and then we expect around 40 golfers for the second leg. We’ll kick things off at the Jack Nicklaus Bear Course in Traverse City, known for being among the toughest public courses in the U.S. Nicklaus himself has stated he never aimed for that level of difficulty, but, well, investors had a different vision.

After tackling an Arnold Palmer course and one designed by Tom Weiskopf, we’ll head to Garland Resort for a major golf event.

The year of great American Cam Young

As I head into this trip, my handicap stands at a USGA GHIN certified 18. I’m a bogey golfer who counts every single stroke. No shortcuts, no gimmicks, and an honest approach to the game.

Ideally, I’d love to post at least one round in the 80s, a goal that’s trickier than it might seem given the courses we’re going to play. Oh, and yes, there will be drinks involved. It is golf, after all.

This isn’t just a simple flat course where you can spray your driver. It requires a more strategic approach—navigating around trouble, playing conservatively, sinking some pars, and avoiding doubles as much as possible.

Lee is officially a screencap spirit animal

Speaking of golf, Lee’s recent accomplishment is a perfect example of doing things your own way. He shared a heartfelt message on Facebook, thanking everyone who joined in on the celebration.

Meanwhile, Rory McIlroy’s complaints about the PGA Tour cancellation are, let’s say, becoming a little tiresome. I mean, it’d be refreshing to see more players like Lee in their Velcro shoes, showcasing feats that many of us can only dream of.

The Thursday Night Mowing League is on the rise

Lee represents the kind of America I aspire to live in.

This is why we do it

I received a wonderful note from Chris, one of the newest players in the TNML (Thursday Night Mowing League), who discovered the league thanks to one of my posts. He shared how his life has changed since he started, feeling happier and more fulfilled on weekends instead of dreading yard work.

TNML isn’t just about mowing lawns; it’s a movement for mental well-being. Chris epitomizes why this league matters—he now wakes up excited for Saturdays instead of worried about another exhausting weekend.

So, who’s going to be the next Chris?

Now, let’s get this ready for publishing and shift gears. Amidst it all, remember you have a full day to prepare for the challenges ahead.

I hope everyone enjoys their Wednesday and makes the most of their time. Don’t forget, the days are getting shorter as we dive deeper into June. Soak in that sun while you can.
