Windham Clark Reflects on Old Tweet About Baker Mayfield
After winning the U.S. Open last weekend, Windham Clark found himself addressing a tweet from December 2016 during his media appearances. This tweet involved a then-college football star at the University of Oklahoma, who is now the starting quarterback in the NFL. At that time, Clark was playing golf at Oklahoma State University before transferring to Oregon State.
The tweet sparked some speculation; many thought it related to the rivalry between Oklahoma State and Oklahoma. However, the real story was different.
On Wednesday’s episode of a podcast, Clark was questioned about that nearly decade-old post. He revealed that his ex-girlfriend, who had cheated on him with Baker Mayfield, had prompted his reaction. That’s pretty understandable, right? He confessed, “I’m trying to decide if I should share this or not. Okay, whatever. People already hate me… My girlfriend at the time cheated on me with Baker Mayfield,” he disclosed.
It’s clear there were mixed feelings. “But, you know what? I’m actually a fan of Baker now. He’s kind of a homie. Your initial thought might be, ‘Forget that guy.’ But it’s tough… she cheated on me,” said Clark.
Hoping for a Golfing Bond
Looking forward, Clark doesn’t harbor any ill will toward Mayfield. In fact, he expressed a hope that by sharing this story, they might even bond over it. “This is personal for me. I hope we can share a moment of camaraderie, like, ‘Oh, brother, I didn’t realize. Too bad. She never mentioned it.’ And then, we can just play golf together,” he mused.
It’s funny how things can change. There’s really no reason for past relationships to create a rift. Both athletes are focusing on their respective paths now, and perhaps they can even hit the golf course together one day. After all, life moves on, right?
