Controversy Surrounds Caitlin Clark in the WNBA

Sports commentator and former NFL player Boomer Esiason has voiced his concerns about the treatment of Caitlin Clark, the WNBA’s standout player. He claims that Clark, a straight white athlete, is being unfairly mistreated.

On Wednesday, during a game, Clark endured severe fouls while officials overlooked the incidents. Esiason, feeling strongly about the situation, suggested that Clark might consider playing in Europe for better protection and respect.

“If I were Caitlin Clark, I would think about playing somewhere overseas where she might receive more favorable treatment… She’s a native white basketball player who deserves more respect,” he stated during Thursday’s WFAN broadcast.

During the recent game between the Indiana Fever and the Phoenix Mercury, Clark was hit hard, receiving two serious fouls. One notable incident involved Mercury player Thomas, who repeatedly kneed Clark in the groin while she was down on the floor, even after she had passed the ball to a teammate. Adding to the chaos, Thomas pushed Clark’s neck with his fist as he got back up, followed by kicking her leg.

This aggressive behavior went unpunished by the referees.

Fever coach Stephanie White, who had previously held back her comments regarding the rough treatment of Clark, eventually spoke out after the game. “I can’t say if it impacted her health, but the no-call was unacceptable,” she expressed. “We alerted the officials at halftime, and this kind of behavior is completely out of line. We have an incredible talent in the WNBA, and to see her taking such cheap shots is unacceptable.”

Coach White was particularly troubled by the incident where Thomas hit Clark in the throat. “Punching someone in the throat with your fist is dangerous and ridiculous,” she remarked. “These repeated incidents are frustrating, and I think they are becoming more severe.”
